What Is Up Selling And Why Should You Use It?

In this article I am going to discuss how to increase your sales by using up sells. I shall describe what this is and how to use it effectively in your marketing efforts.
Up selling is where you have one product (product A) and another product (product B). Product B will be an upgraded version of product A.
So when someone goes to purchase product A and they place their order you then offer an upgrade to the higher priced product B. It could be a home study course.
So for example, if product A is $27 and is training on one particular topic you could offer an upgrade to product B which is a complete home study course for $97 that covers four different topics rather than just the one topic.
Your upgrade could be a premium version or more advanced training program. You could present an upgrade which includes extras such as videos to demonstrate what is included in the training program.
When someone goes to purchase any product online then at the moment they press the buy now button, they are in a buyers state of mind. If you offer something else at that specific moment then people will seriously consider it. Therefore it can be a good way to increase your overall sales.
Using up sells is a technique that you should test in your own business to see what kind of results you obtain and how it influences your customers. It is not something that you should do with every single product you create but every now and again having an up sell can be of benefit to both you and your customer.
One way to offer an up sell is it offer it at a special discount if purchased at that particular time. This can persuade some people to upgrade for fear of the price being higher if they want it at a later date.
However, if you do offer it as a one time special discount then you must uphold that. Many marketers present a one time offer but in reality is it always available at that particular price. So it ends up being an on going one time offer!
This marketing tactic is seen offline as well as online and therefore people are fairly used to seeing an upgrade offered. However, it only works well if the upgrade provides added benefits and compliments the original product. It shouldn't be a necessity in order for the first product to be beneficial or useful.
