The Emotional Element Of Selling

Being able to sell something online relies not only on creating a good quality product that people want but also on how you sell it. In this article I want to discuss the emotional element of selling and how you can go about incorporating it into your sales process.
The Need
First of all you are providing a solution to a specific need. That need or struggle with have certain emotions attached to it.
If you have been in that place yourself where you have needed to overcome something then think back to how you felt before you had found out a solution to your problem.
Using emotive language will help your customers to understand and relate to the problem you are describing. It will enable those who have yet to realise that they even need help to discover that they too need a solution.
Being able to put yourself in your customers shoes is an important part of selling any product. You need to understand exactly what you are solving so that you can relate to the emotions that people feel when stuck without the solution.
Use words such as frustrating, annoying, overwhelming, fed up, tired, at a loss, angry, sad, etc. All of these words conjure up some form of emotion that people can relate to.
The Solution
Now focus on the solution. Think about how you would feel if you no longer had that particular problem. What words and feelings come to mind?
Again you will want to help your customers to relate to the feelings associated with no longer struggling with that issue.
In order for your product to be worth something to someone you need to be clear on what results specifically they will get. Go into the emotional element of how it would feel to be able to do such and such. Being able to experience the joy and relief or the confidence that they would have once they have solved that problem.
The Call To Action
Then you need to tell your customer what to do. You need to make it clear that they should take action. Again there is an emotional element you can add. Getting instant access and solving the problem today builds anticipation of getting rid of the problem quickly. Relief and achievement are compelling.
Effective selling is about offering specific help and being clear how your product solves a problem.
