Using Copywriting Skills to Grow Your Business

Become a Copywriter and Grow Your Business Online
What is Copywriting?
Copywriting is using the written word to spread the news about the benefits of your products, services or business opportunity. It is a very powerful tool that will work hard for you every single day. Used correctly, it can grow your business by finding targeted leads and customers. You don't need to be highly skilled but you should do your best to learn the basics. Become a good copywriter and it can establish you as a leader and an expert in your field. You can also let people get to know who you are, establish trust in you, and start to build relationships. You want to learn how to write about the benefits of your company or products, but not necessarily the company itself. People will be more interested in who you are and what you have to say before they want to hear your sales pitch.
Copywriters Start With Research
Before you start to write, research what people want, need or desire in the market you are in. Start by making a list of all the benefits of your product, services or opportunity. Use this list to help you find what people are searching for on the internet. You can start by going to Amazon.com and looking at the bestselling books that apply to your market. Read the descriptions and any other information you can find about these most sought after books. The goal is to see what people are searching for. Check out the forums for your niche and see what people are talking about. Just put in a search term for your niche and type the word forum after it. You may want to start talking to people who share your interests. Spending a few days doing research helps you know the best way to grab the attention of your audience. Finding out their needs is the best way to prepare you to respond with your solutions. Once you narrow down your list do a keyword search site to find similar keyword phrases. Check for phrases that are being searched for frequently but when entered into a Google search produce 7 million or less competing websites. If your phrase has too much competition, your copywriting efforts will get lost.
Putting Your Copywriter Efforts to Work
Now that you have done your research, you will have a better understanding of your market. You can now create a more compelling website, article, or ad that gains their attention. You can reach out to people who are truly interested in what you have to say and who are interested in your product, service, or business opportunity. Your goal is to use your copywriting skills and keyword search to get them to respond to your call to action. You want to write an intriguing ad or a free report where people are willing to give their contact information in order to read more. Once you start to get responses you have then achieved one of several important goals. Many people don't feel confident to write copy on their own so they hire someone to help them do their writing. Don't feel afraid to search for someone with good copywriting skills. Give that person your research results and let them start writing.
How to Write a Powerful Copy
It starts with a powerful headline and sub headlines. It needs to be so attention getting that it makes them want to read more of what you have written. Your headline can ask a question or have leading power words such as: "Uncover the truth about", "What everyone should know about", "The Secret to", "Easy ways to", or "Revealed at last". There are whole lists of popular phrases to help you write a good headline. Next you will write about the benefits of your product, service, or opportunity which provides a solution to their problem. If they don't see enough benefits they will stop right there and leave your page. You can tell a gripping story or write about how it changed your life. There are good template outlines out there where you fill in the blanks and get a better written article. You then need to write a call to action that compels them to respond. Usually a good call to action offers some type of reward such as a free report with more information, a free gift or offer of some sort.
Other Uses of Copywriting Skills
Another reason to become a copywriter is that once someone opts into your site and you are finally able to talk to them, you need to have a written presentation and closing script. You don't really want to read it to them word for word or you will not sound natural, but you should follow your general outline in order to share the same information each time and make your points more quickly and efficiently. People can call you at any time of the day and you can get on board quickly by grabbing your script. Practicing beforehand will give you more confidence. Don't forget to include some questions for them to answer in order to get a feel for their interest or needs. Also share some information about yourself in order to make a connection with them.
Closing skills is an art in itself and can work differently for each customer. Have several scenarios written out beforehand. After a while you will get a feel for which ones work best for different types of customers. I like the "dream with me scenarios" and the "best case/worst case scenario". There are many more ways to close such as using a limited time offer close or making a special one-time offer.
